In order for your membership site to be successful for the long-term and provide the profits and reputation you are expecting from operating such a site, you need to find a hungry target market that is in need of such a membership site. Without a hungry demand for your membership site, your site won’t survive for the long-term because you won’t have enough paying members to make it profitable for you to keep the site open long-term.
To determine some hungry target markets you can provide a membership site for, you should do some research on what topics are highly researched online and how many sites are catering to those markets. You can use keyword searches in your favorite search engine and check out the results that are displayed to determine the market interest and the number of sites catering to that market. You can also check out sites such as Amazon and Clickbank to determine how many physical and digital products are out there regarding the topic you plan to build your site around. Again, this can show how much interest there is in the topic and whether it is feasible to build a site around that topic.
Additionally, you can check to see how many other sites, and especially membership sites, are already out there that cater to that market and provide information on the topic or similar topics to the one you have in mind. You can see what strengths these sites have and what weaknesses these sites have so that you can differentiate your membership site and ensure that your site doesn’t have those weaknesses your competitors’ sites do, and thereby, ensure your membership site remains for the long-term.
